Frequently Asked Questions (Part 1)

I thought I would post a rather lame post. This post would be much lamer compared to my normal post, which are serious and talks about things that are usually accumulation of thoughts all thrown out in one shot.

Because of the fact that I decided to allow people to link my blog (which is mainly due to the fact that a bunch of people had linked my blog without "sort of" asking me) and also because quite a new bunch of people just learnt about my blog, I thought a Q&A session would be a great thing to do right now.

This will become the FAQ section of this blog, and I think I will occasionally come back to this Q&A format when I feel like it or when it becomes necessary for me. Most of the questions below has been asked from time to time, and some are questions that I thought you all would be interested to know, although you might be too embarrassed to ask:

Q: When did you start the blog?
A: Start the blog?! You mean you didn't read this right from the beginning...
Anyway, the blog officially started on 31st December 2004. I got the motivation to start this blog around October 2004 cause I thought it would be a good way for me to express some of my thoughts and ideas, but I did not manage to get myself in front of the computer to type things until around 30th Decemeber 2004. So officially, this blog started on 31st December 2004.

Q: Why is it on this date, 31/12/2004?
A: Well, it just happens to be a coincidence. Actually, it isn't. I wanted the date of my blog to be something for me to easily remembered. Anyway, the most easily remembered date around December would be either Christmas or the eve of the New Year. I missed Christmas, so I thought might as well do it on the eve of december. That's how it came to be...

Q: Why is your name Discmon?
A: Really really really long story. In fact, I already talked about it once... You can just click here

Q: Wow, what a nice name...
A: Thanks a lot :) (Ok, that was me complimenting myself, ok?)

Q: How often do you post to your blog?
A: You should see the pattern by now don't you? There is obviously a definite pattern...
If you can't see the pattern, well, the pattern of posting is indefinite. Usually, I'll post something when big things happen in my life or when I'm freaking piss off with somebody. Unless you happen to the target of criticism, you probably would never know when I would get the feeling to post something.

Q: Why are you post so lengthy? Its driving me mad...
A: Cause I feel that short post don't exactly bring my points across. Usually when I write a post, I really got a lot of things to talk about on that subject, so writing short post would technically be impossible. Also, different people have different styles of writing. So you'll just have to bear with it. Thanks...

Q: Erm, what happened to your Advance War thingy????
A: Hey, you remembered it?! WOW!!! Anyway, I ran out of people to try out my strategies on, and also, I got a bit sick of that game (I can't get past the freaking last campaign mission). So I sorta discontinued it. You probably will not be able to see another post on that sort of strategy again...

Q: Are you going to change your blog template? It's really boring/not nice/____[please fill in the blanks]
A: Lets see... NO.
Various reasons for me not changing my blogskin:
  1. I'm lazy and refuses to design my own template
  2. I'm sick of checking blogskin.com for templates, which none of them ever fits my blog theme...
  3. I don't like to use a chatbox..
  4. I decided not to make your life harder when you can't find the buttons to navigate my blog when I change my blogskin
Q: Why do you not like to use a chatbox?
A: I did consider on getting a cbox for my blog, but in the end, I decided not to get it.
My reasons are that, I prefer to have comments permanently on post so that people who digs up the archives (as if anyone is ever interested in my blog history...) will be able to know the discussion that sparked off over that post. Also, I had heard of many nasty experiences from various people whose cbox got spammed pretty badly with all sorts of crazy stuff, and for one thing, I hate spammers whom spam my comments section with comments that do not in anyway relate to the post...

Q: Crazy Stuff?!
A: Ya, just look around the net for blogs that are maintained by 13-year olds or are visited by people round that age-group...

Q: Do you hate people who does advertisements on your blog?
A: Oh yes I do. I delete those advertisments whenever I see it. They post things that are not in anyway related to your post and they make your blog look unmaintained when they spam your comments section with advertisments.
I would like to post a message to this group of people:
WOW, what a nice way for you all to advertise for your college, university, products, blah. If you want to do that here, pay me. Heard of Google ads? Can't you afford it... Hang on, am I joking, you are already on the internet... Of course you can afford it...
So to all those spammers out there who advertise products on blogs all over the world: GET A LIFE and use GOOGLE ADS...

Q: Why do you post 1 post per page? it gets really tiring to navigate the blog...
A: Be rest assured, this isn't the most hard to naviagate blog. Have you ever seen one where it has a separate homepage for every post and you have to go through it everytime you dig up one post? Yup, that's called hard...
But you should be pretty glad that it is one post per page. Its already tiring enough to scroll the browser up and down to finish one of my post, so imagine putting two together......

Q: Why do you not have a links section?
A: When I started this blog, I wanted it to be not too open with others...This is because of the nature of the post on my blog, which you can see is pretty much criticism. Now, I am too lazy to maintain a links section.

Q: Why is your blog not as exciting/interesting/___[insert your own word] as shadowkat blog?
A: Lots of reasons:
  1. Shadowkat english grade is usually A1, mine is usually B4
  2. Shadowkat grew up in an English family, I grew up in a Chinese family
  3. Shadowkat spent his life talking in English, I spent my life talking more Chinese than English
  4. Shadowkat organised his blog in the form of a story in the word of Erath in a country called Pingasore(as if anyone can't see through the anagram). Mine is a post by post account of modern world with proper names
  5. Read Shadowkat response to idiots who post crap on his cbox...
  6. Shadowkat style is more exciting and interesting than my style...
  7. Do I still need to explain?!
Q: Yes...
A: -.-"

Q: Then why didn't you write your blog in Chinese?
A: Maybe I should make it clearer to you all. Both my languages are bad... Also, I would probably die if you ask me to post a Chinese post that is as long as my typical post as HanYuPinYin is something that I have problems with...

Q: So is this all the question you'll be answering today?
A: Yes, I'm tired. I thought I would tackle all the technical questions on my blog before launching into questions on individual post and various other miscellanous stuff. I hope that this FAQ would answer some questions that various people have on their minds, but if it haven't, please don't spam my e-mail inbox (like two friends whom started a really fiery debate on some thing and spammed my e-mail inbox with 4 consecutive post) mass nudge/pm me on msn...

Cause you'll never know if you'll get featured on the next FAQ...
And this is not an empty threat, trust me on that...
